Bike Lanes & Economic Development

This study aimed to examine the local economic effects—whether positive, negative, or neutral—of installing a bike lane along a key main street in Toronto, while also exploring how visitor travel patterns and attitudes contribute to these outcomes.

The high spending rates among individuals who walked or biked likely stem from a larger proportion of these respondents living or working nearby and frequenting Bloor Street often. Spending was observed to rise with both proximity to the area and frequency of visits.
